Top photo spots in Seoul

South Korea’s capital, Seoul, is a photographer’s dream city. It is a metropolis of stark contrasts. From its historic neighbourhoods and palaces, to the bustling shopping streets and skyscrapers of the modern city, you will be spoilt for choice for photo spots.

In this blog, I list my four top places to photograph when you visit Seoul, with pictures that I took whilst I was in the city. As you will see, I used some interesting photography props, from Scrabble letters to my favourite glass ball, and doing the ‘follow me to’ trend.

1) Namsan Mountain

Namsan Mountain is a 262-metre high peak in Seoul with incredible panoramic views of the entire city. You can either hike up to the top or experience the scenic Namsan cable car ride, which is also Korea’s first ever cable car! I did the latter and chose to go late evening, to catch the beautiful sunset.

2) Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon Hanok Village is one of South Korea’s oldest and most picturesque villages. The traditional Korean houses are called ‘hanok’ and date back to the 14th century. It is well worth a climb to the top of the village, where you will be greeted with breathtaking vistas, overlooking the modern city. Be sure to take a photo of the cool contrast, with both traditional and modern Seoul in the same shot. This is also a popular location for tourists to pose in traditional Korean dresses!

3) Gyeongbukgung Palace

Gyeongbukgung is the largest of Seoul’s five ancient royal palaces, located in the north of the city. Its stunning architecture, together with the lush gardens that surround it, make this palace is a must-visit location when in the city. Given the sheer size of the palace and its grounds, be sure to leave at least half a day so you get the most out of your visit!

4) Myeongdong

Myeongdong a.k.a. ‘bright town’ is Seoul’s most popular shopping district, right in the heart of the capital. This spot is an Instagrammer’s heaven, where the glimmering lights, neon billboards, and bustling crowds all merge together to create the perfect shot!
