Top Instagrammable spots in Vienna, Austria
Austria’s magical capital, Vienna, is home to world-class imperial palaces and cutting-edge architecture, creating a modern vibe around this historic city. This fairytale-like city is one of the prettiest in the world, with an abundance of photogenic spots everywhere you look. Here are my recommendations for the top Instagrammable spots in Vienna…

Hundertwasser House, in my opinion, is the most Instagrammable spot in Vienna. The colourfully decorated façade of this unique apartment house makes this a true architectural gem, and over 200 trees and shrubs on the balconies and roof terraces make the Hundertwasser House a green oasis in the heart of the city.
Fun fact – anyone who lives in the Hundertwasser House has the right to decorate the façade around the windows entirely to their own taste!
Belvedere is one of the most magnificent baroque palaces in the world, bringing together a merge of history and culture. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ensemble comprises the Upper and Lower Belvedere, together with an extensive garden.
The Belvedere houses the greatest collection of Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, complemented by the work of international artists, including Vincent van Gogh.
Be sure to check out the palace grounds for some great photos…
Vienna’s Hofburg Imperial Palace, located in the heart of the city, is one of the biggest palace complexes in the world.
This impressive palace was once the seat of power of the Habsburg dynasty which ruled the Austrian Empire for centuries. The palace is home to several museums and galleries, such as the Imperial Treasury, the Imperial Silver Collection, and the Imperial Armoury. There are also several stunning gardens and courtyards to explore, including the Palm House, where exotic plants from around the world are cultivated.
It is adjacent to Michaelerplatz, the historic city centre square – this is my favourite spot to capture Hofburg Imperial Palace, with beautiful horse-drawn carriages in the foreground…
The Graben Vienna is one of the most famous streets in Vienna. If you are a Londoner, it gave me Piccadilly Circus vibes! Graben is an ornate and exclusive shopping street in the heart of the city and dates back to the Roman era in the 12th century. In addition to it providing the perfect shopping experience, it is ideal for the gram, given the central Plague Column, elegant Viennese buildings, pretty surrounding alleys and famous cafes.
Kohlmarkt is the most prestigious shopping street in downtown Vienna, filled with designer flagship stores including Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Armani. The architectural style of the buildings along this street is similar to those on Graben, but an added bonus of visiting Kohlmarkt is capturing this classic view of the domed entryway to the Hofburg Imperial Palace…
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, located in Stephansplatz, is the symbol of Vienna. It was built in the early 12th century, and today, is the tallest and most prominent Gothic structure in Austria. The cathedral is known for its intricately tiled roof and breathtaking views from its North and South Towers.
Vienna’s street life is fascinating and there really are great photo opportunities at every corner you turn. Take some time to appreciate and capture the beauty of the Viennese streets.
