How to fuel your wanderlust at home

How to fuel your wanderlust at home

It’s been a difficult few weeks for all of us due to the coronavirus pandemic. We are unable to travel and are homebound for the foreseeable future. Don’t worry though – to brighten your mood, in my next series of blog posts, I’m going to inspire you on how to keep your wanderlust alive from the comfort of your own home.

In today’s blog post, I share with you the top five ways to fuel your wanderlust at home…

1) Look back at your beautiful travel memories

Now is the perfect time to look through all those epic photos and videos you’ve taken on your holidays, and all the souvenirs you’ve collected and relive the memories. Remember the good times and all the experiences you’ve enjoyed with your family and friends abroad. Whether that’s admiring Canada’s breathtaking Niagara Falls, walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles or posing infront of Kuala Lumpur’s magnificent Petronas Towers, looking back at your travel memories will keep your wanderlust alive.

Smile, laugh and be grateful for all the travel moments you’ve experienced with those you love most – it won’t be too long before we can all go on great adventures again!

2) Create a travel bucket list

Take some of this down time whilst at home to daydream and let your mind wander to where in the world you want to go next.

Make an ultimate travel bucket list of all the places you want to visit when the travel restrictions are lifted. This is a super fun activity which will fuel your wanderlust. My bucket list includes seeing Arizona’s awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, Peru’s spectacular Rainbow Mountains, Bolivia’s incredible salt flats and Sydney’s majestic Opera House.

3) Plan your future adventures

Once you’ve created your bucket list, start planning your future trips. There are so many sources of travel inspiration – from epic travel accounts on Instagram and inspiring YouTube videos, to browsing travel guides and discussing with friends.

Keep an eye out for my upcoming blog on how to create the perfect travel itinerary!

4) Buy a travel scratch map

I recently treated myself to a travel scratch map and it’s definitely one of the best purchases I’ve made! If like me, you love travelling, be sure to buy yourself a map from Scratch Map by Luckies, to hang on your bedroom wall and admire every day.

Make use of the free time you have to scratch off the gold foil layer of every country you’ve visited, which will reveal beautifully coloured sections of the map beneath. The joy you get from scratching off another country is almost as exciting as the trip itself. The map also contains interesting facts about the world – I never knew that France has the highest per capita consumption of cheese!

5) Learn more about travel photography

Want to up your photography game but feel that the coronavirus lockdown means you can’t do that? Don’t worry!

You can use the time at home productively by learning more about your phone camera or DSLR. Are there controls on your camera you’ve always wondered about but have never had the chance to research or experiment with them? Now is the perfect time to watch tutorials and test your camera, whether in your living room, balcony or garden.

Download some free photo editing apps on your phone such as Snapseed or Lightroom to take your photography and editing skills to another level!

Once this pandemic is over, you’ll be able to use what you’ve learnt to take amazing travel photos on your adventures.

Look out for an upcoming blog on my top photography and editing tips 😊
