Farewell to the British Airways 747
Next post
Today has been another sad day for the aviation industry and for avgeeks, with the two final BA 747s taking off for their last flights this morning, from London’s Heathrow Airport.
The Boeing quad jet aircraft, which is often described as the “jumbo jet” and “Queen of the Skies”, first took to the skies in 1969, and had been in service with BA since 1971. BA holds the title of being the world’s largest 747 operator!
It was a childhood dream for me to fly on this iconic aircraft, which I had the pleasure of being able to do when I travelled to New York’s JFK. As I took my first few steps into the aircraft, I remember being amazed by the huge interiors, the lavish upper deck, and the extraordinary boom on take off!
I live under the Heathrow flight path and always looked forward to running to the window to see a 747 fly past my house, and then immediately going onto the Flight Radar app to see where it was flying into London from! Those days will be forever remembered.
The era of the BA 747, spanning half a century, will never be forgotten and its legacy will live on! #BA747farewell
Here are some of my favourite photos that I’ve taken of BA’s 747s whilst plane spotting at Heathrow Airport…
Amazing pictures!
