Best photo spots in Los Angeles

Best photo spots in Los Angeles

A year ago today, I jetted off to Los Angeles, surely the most glamorous city in the United States. I can’t help but reminisce on the amazing time I had with friends, from ticking the Hollywood Sign off our bucket lists, to going to the end of America’s most famous road, Route 66. The glitz and glamour of the City of Angels, together with breathtaking views, iconic palm trees, pretty beaches and incredible mountains, make this city a photographer’s heaven. Here’s the top spots I recommend for when you visit, which will no doubt add lots of sparkle to your Insta feed!

Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign is the most photo-worthy sight in LA and definitely my favourite!

The first opportunity to see the sign is when landing into LAX, if you’re lucky enough to have a window seat on the right hand side of the plane. This was the first time I saw it and was in awe, even before touching down in the city!

There are many spots you can see the sign from close up – in my opinion, the best vantage point is from Lake Hollywood Park, due to its close proximity and undisturbed view.

Griffith Observatory

The incredible domed architecture and stunning views of the entire city, make Griffith Observatory one of the most popular Instagram spots in LA. The Observatory is located on Mount Hollywood’s south-facing slope in Griffith Park.

You can capture beautiful pictures at any time of day from here, but my favourite was at golden hour!

Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills

From the evenly-lined palm trees and luxurious cars, to the reflective shop windows and coloured shop entrances, Rodeo Drive is most certainly a road for the gram. Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, it’s one of the prettiest areas in the city.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame stretches over 15 blocks and comprises over 2,600 stars. It’s a tourist hotspot and is super packed at most times of the day, but be sure to take some shots to add to your LA album.

Getty Center

The Getty Center is a free art museum, located in the Santa Monica mountains, in the northwest end of LA. Enjoy the views during the free tram ride, which will take you to the entrance of the museum.

The building’s architecture is incredible and the views of LA from here will impress.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

I visited the Urban Light display outside LACMA, located at the Wilshire Boulevard entrance. This particular display is free to visit and is a collection of 202 old vintage street lights, which back in the day, used to light up the streets of Southern California.

I used my glass ball at the display to take a slightly different picture – be sure to experiment here to get a unique shot for your Insta.

Santa Monica Pier and the end of Route 66

There are endless photo spots at Santa Monica – from the pedestrian mall esplanade at Third Street Promenande, to the ‘Route 66 End of the Trail’ sign; from the magnificent ferris wheel at the pier, to the sun disappearing below the horizon!

Downtown LA

Downtown LA has epic photo spots. One of my favourites is the free observation deck at City Hall which offers great views of the skyline.

The Last Bookstore is probably one of downtown LA’s most iconic stores. The second floor of the shop has multiple art installations made out of vintage books, including a book tunnel.

The impressive exterior of the Broad Museum in downtown is also great to photograph.
