I’m ready to take off on the Qantas 20-hour flight from London to Sydney

Australia has never felt closer! In a major milestone for the aviation industry, Qantas has announced its Project Sunrise A350 mission, operating the world’s longest direct flight from London Heathrow to Sydney from 2025.

Qantas has ordered a brand new fleet of 12 Airbus A350-1000s, which will operate from both London and New York to Sydney, taking approximately 20 hours and flying about 11,000 miles.

The longest flights I have previously done are from Malaysia and Japan to London, both of which took about 14 hours. Although I have never been able to sleep on a plane and have crazy jet lag when I land, Qantas’ 20-hour flight is a game changer. Here’s why I am up for it and why you should consider it too…

The excitement of flying again – a photo blog

The excitement of flying again – a photo blog

Last week, I went on my first flights since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the best feeling to be back on a plane after 17 months! I flew with British Airways for my trip to Edinburgh, out of London City Airport, and then returning back into London Heathrow Airport.

This was my first time flying from City Airport and the unique route out of London definitely makes for some great shots of the O2 arena and the city! At the end of my trip, the sunshine and blue skies on arrival into my favourite airport, Heathrow, presented me with an amazing view of Windsor Castle. I have missed flying so much, as I am sure you have too, and so this blog post is dedicated to the photos from both flights! Enjoy…

Today has been another sad day for the aviation industry and for avgeeks, with the two final BA 747s taking off for their last flights this morning, from London’s Heathrow Airport.
