Travelling through northern Bulgaria – a photo blog
Bulgaria showcases a history that emerges through ancient ruins, awe-inspiring fortresses, incredible landscapes, peaceful monasteries and quaint old towns. Here’s a photo blog of my journey through northern Bulgaria…
The Ivanovo Municipality is located in the Ruse Province of northern Bulgaria, which is situated in the Danubian Plain. The natural scenery is breathtaking, especially with the autumn foliage.
Veliko Tarnovo was the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire (1185-1396) and has long traditions in the culture of Bulgaria. During the Middle Ages, it was a bustling cultural and economic hub. It’s located in the Balkan mountains and is now a UNESCO World Heritage city, thanks to its rich history and culture, dating back over 7000 years.
Tsarevets Hill features the remains of the castle and church of the Bulgarian kings. An impressive fortress was built here and I highly recommend hiking to the top for incredible views across northern Bulgaria.
Arbanasi is a historical village in the Veliko Tarnovo Province of northern Bulgaria. It’s one of the oldest Bulgarian towns.
This street is filled with workshops owned by Bulgarian families for generations and includes functional coppersmiths producing copper plates and Turkish coffee cups.
