Maltese balconies – a photo blog of these architectural wonders

Since the first day I stepped foot in Malta, I have developed a Maltese balcony obsession. Malta’s balconies, otherwise known as the gallarija, are traditional elements of the country’s architecture. They became popular in the late 17th century, with the first balconies featuring at Valletta’s Grand Master’s Palace, which then set off this spectacular trend. I have been in complete awe of them, including their colours and structures, and how they feature on buildings all over the country. Interestingly, the colour of the balcony is matched to the door of that particular building. It is only right that I dedicate an entire blog post to photos of these architectural wonders…
